As far as unique projects go, this fully electric powered classic Porsche 910 is right on top of the list. An Austrian firm called Kreisel Electric teamed up with Evex to breathe new climate friendly life into this Le Mans legend.
50 years after this Porsche 910 competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans it has been given a new life thanks to an electric powertrain. The revitalized supercar comes with a 53 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that secures a driving range of no less than 350 kilometers.
In order to fit the 1,100 kilograms heavy battery pack, the designers had to slightly alter the classic’s body at the rear. The 910’s old fashioned cooling system has been replaced by a cooling system which Kreisel developed for high performance driving. Besides 350 kilometers of driving range, the ‘Kreisel EVEX 910e’ is said to be razor fast with a top speed of over 300 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration of just 2.5 seconds.
Unlike the original Porsche race car, this electric supercar is road legal. The times that this Porsche 910 was powered by a 2.0-liter flat six and German race drivers Rolf Stommelen and Jochen Neerpasch achieved the sixth place in the overall ranking at the World Sportscar Championship 1967 in Le Mans are long gone.
Transforming such a classic into a modern-day supercar is beyond unconventional, but we salute its creators for this impressive piece of engineering and bringing back this classic masterpiece, albeit without the admirable roar it was once defined by.
